Wisbech Guide is meant to be the page you trust when you want to know what's open, what's good and how to get there. This page explains exactly where the information comes from and what money can and can't change.
Where listing data comes from
- Names, addresses, phone numbers, opening hours, ratings, review counts and listing photos come from public Google Maps listings.
- We re-check every listing monthly against Google Maps. The date is shown on every listing page as "Last checked", and the site-wide refresh date is in the footer (currently 24 Oct 2026).
- Places that are permanently closed, outside PE13 and PE14, or not open to the public (offices, wholesalers, depots) are left out.
How descriptions are written
- Where a listing says "Written from N Google reviews", the description was summarised from those public reviews and checked against the listing data. It reflects what reviewers say, not our opinion.
- Other listings get a short factual line built from the business type, street and facilities (for example "dog friendly" or "wheelchair access"), and never claim to come from reviews.
- Businesses that claim their listing can write their own description; it is shown as "From the business".
How we rank
- Category pages and auto-ranked best-of lists sort by Google rating, then number of reviews.
- Places with fewer than five reviews come after the rest, so a single five-star review can't top a list.
- Lists marked "Picked by the team" are ordered by hand; every other list says "Ranked automatically" and shows the date.
- Paying for Premium or a Featured slot never changes a ranking.
Featured and paid placements
- Featured slots (up to three at the top of a category, and three on the home page) are paid and always labelled "Featured".
- Chains are listed but never featured.
- Premium listings can show a website link and their own photos. Everything else on a Premium listing is checked the same way as a free one.
